Learning phase

Definition: The learning phase is a period in a Meta campaign in which, after an ad set is created or significantly edited, the system is still learning who to show the ads to and how. Results can be less stable then. Meta describes how many optimisation events end it; read the exact thresholds on its help page.

This is a Meta term, not a shop term. It is worth knowing because changes to a campaign can trigger it again.

Also called: learning phase, learning limited, Meta learning phase

The demo has sample data; the login comes to your e-mail.

Why it matters for a shop

Impatience during learning costs: frequent changes of budget, creative or audience can prolong it or trigger it again. For a shop it also matters that purchases reach Meta on time, because the system learns from them.

How Basketly handles it

  • Campaigns and Creatives show which event an ad set is optimised for (an optimisation label).
  • Sending purchases from the server helps a purchase reach Meta even when the Pixel did not see it; this does not promise a shorter learning phase.
  • You read the learning status in Ads Manager; the panel does not reproduce it.

A general description. Meta’s help page on the learning phase could not be read on 2026-10-29, so we give no thresholds or numbers.

What Learning phase does not do

  • There is no shortcut to end the learning phase and no sure way to shorten it.
  • A finished learning phase does not mean good results.

It depends on the ad set and the number of optimisation events. Meta gives the thresholds in its Help Center.

You can, but bigger changes may trigger it again. Make them deliberately and one at a time.
