A product feed for ChatGPT (CSV)
ChatGPT Ads takes products in a file with fixed columns. Basketly lays out such a CSV from the same products it makes feeds for Google and Meta from. Fixes and rules work as everywhere, and a product missing a required field is left out so it does not spoil the file.
The demo has sample data; the login comes to your e-mail.
What the file holds
The file has the fixed columns of OpenAI’s product schema. The columns filled from the feed, when a product has them, include:
- item_id, title, description, url, brand, image_url and additional_image_urls,
- availability in the values in_stock, out_of_stock, pre_order or backorder,
- price with its currency, and sale_price when lower and in the same currency,
- gtin (when it has 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits), mpn, condition, product_category, color, size, gender, age_group and material,
- group_id, listing_has_variations and variant_dict (color, size) for products whose item_group_id differs from their id and that have a colour or size.
Fields Basketly sets
seller_name is your organisation’s name in Basketly, and seller_url is the address the product link is on. is_eligible_search and is_ads_eligible are set to true. Unknown optional fields stay empty, and store_country and target_countries are not set.
A ChatGPT feed in 4 steps
It takes a few minutes if the products are already in Basketly.
Make a copy or a new feed
In Basketly open Feeds. On the feed page use “Create a copy”, or add a new feed from the same products.
Set the ChatGPT (OpenAI) CSV format
In the feed settings (Output: feed format) choose ChatGPT (OpenAI) CSV. In a flow you choose the format in the Output block and save the flow.
Fill in missing fields
If products drop out because a brand or description is missing, add a rule that sets the field from a template. The preview shows how many products stay in the file.
Give the address to ChatGPT Ads
Copy the output feed address and give it in ChatGPT Ads Manager as the product file.
What is left out
A product without a brand, description, image, availability, or a price with its currency does not reach the file. You can usually fix that with a rule in the same feed, for example setting the brand from a template. The feed page shows how many products remain.
ChatGPT Ads purchases in Basketly
The product file is one thing, and measurement is another. The ChatGPT Ads connection in Integrations sends shop purchases to OpenAI from the server, and can optionally read campaign results. It is a separate integration with its own limits, so a file being accepted proves nothing about how well ads work.
What it does not do
- It does not send the file to OpenAI for you: you give the address yourself.
- It does not add data that is not in the source. A product missing a required field does not reach the file.
- It does not set the shop’s countries or the target countries (store_country, target_countries).
- It is not a format for Meta or Google: for them use the Google / Meta feed.
- The product file is not proof of how well ads work or that an ad gets the credit for a purchase.
It is the product file for ChatGPT Ads, in OpenAI’s fixed column layout.
A missing brand, description, image, availability, or a price with its currency makes the product drop out of the file. You can fix it with a rule in the same feed.
Not this format. Meta reads Google RSS or CSV with Google columns. Copy the feed and set the Google / Meta format in the copy.
With its currency, for example 89.00 USD. A sale price goes into the file when it is lower and in the same currency.
A separate ChatGPT Ads integration sends shop purchases to OpenAI and can read campaign results. The product file and the measurement are independent.
