Missing Google product category
A product has no google_product_category, and the shop has categories of its own that Google does not know. It is the one problem in this series that Basketly mostly solves itself, with a way to review.
The demo has sample data; the login comes to your e-mail.
The message you see
A missing [google_product_category] attribute; it is optional, so this is more a tip than a blocking message.
Google Merchant Center → Products → Diagnostics; in Basketly: Products, the “Brak kategorii Google” check.
What Basketly does
Basketly matches a category from Google’s taxonomy to every feed product itself, shows the confidence of the choice and flags for review those that need a person.
Why it matters
Google categorises products itself, but the category you give sets extra requirements, such as colour, size, gender and age group for apparel. It also lets you split campaigns by category. A missing attribute does not block a product.
How Basketly handles it
- Feeds → Google categories: one row per shop category, with its Google category, the source of the choice and the confidence; the products column leads to the Products list.
- Order: a category you chose or confirmed wins, then a valid category the product already has, then the automatic choice for the shop category, and last a match by the product’s title.
- It runs by itself after a feed is created and after every product read; “Przelicz automatycznie” recomputes everything.
- Every change is saved at once with “Cofnij”; a confirmed category never changes by itself.
How to fill in a Google category
In most shops it is enough to review the rows flagged for review.
Open the feed’s categories
Go to the feed and its Google categories tab.
Review the “Do sprawdzenia” rows
Check rows with a confidence below 60 first.
Confirm or change
Click “Zatwierdź” if the category is right, or search for the right one by its Polish or English name.
In bulk
Tick rows and use “Ustaw kategorię Google…” to give one category to many shop categories.
What Basketly does not do
- The automatic choice can be wrong: low-confidence rows need a person.
- A correct category does not guarantee approval or impressions for a product.
- The taxonomy has a date and can change; retired categories are flagged in the panel.
