Google product category
Definition: The Google product category (google_product_category) is a feed attribute in which you name a product’s category from Google’s predefined taxonomy. You give its ID number or its full path, but not both, and only one category per product. The attribute is an optional override of Google’s automatic categorisation.
Google assigns a category itself, so the attribute is needed where the automation falls short or where the category brings extra requirements.
Also called: google_product_category, Google category, Google product taxonomy

Why it matters for a shop
The category decides which attributes are required: for apparel Google wants colour, size, gender and age group. So a good category also shifts which checks a product must pass. An empty category does not block a product but stops you organising campaigns by category.
How Basketly handles it
- Feeds → Google categories: one row per shop category, with its Google category, the source of the choice (confirmed, automatic, by product name) and the confidence.
- Below confidence 60 the row is flagged “Do sprawdzenia” (to review), below 30 nothing is assigned.
- The choice needs no outside service and runs on its own after a feed is created, after a product read and on “Przelicz automatycznie”.
- Products: the “Brak kategorii Google” check is marked as fixed by the feed when Basketly finds a category.

What Google product category does not do
- The automatic choice can be wrong; low-confidence rows need a review.
- A correct category does not guarantee approval or impressions for a product.
No, it is optional. Give it when Google’s automatic categorisation falls short or when the category imposes extra attributes.
One or the other, never both. Basketly stores and shows the category as a path in your language, with the number in a tooltip.
The panel flags the row “Kategoria wycofana przez Google” and lets you pick a new one.
